There’s another game on the Google homepage today (two in a row? We truly are blessed). This one, I think I preferred to yesterday’s. It’s a basketball game; simply score as many points as possible. Give it a try. My best on this one is 33.
Also, in case you care, I just realised you can find all of Google’s past fancy logos right here.
On a slightly different note (but still on the subject of killing time), I’m slowly starting to tear myself away from the truly epic time-killer that is Skyrim, and I’m looking for something to replace it. So, for the first time in several years, I’m taking up game design.
I’ve already started fiddling about with it and trying to get used to the program (Game Maker, if you’re wondering) after so long having not used it at all, and quite frankly, I’m finding it difficult. Still though, I’ve come up with a project which should be worth doing.
The finished product as I envisage it at the moment is, quite simply, a simulation game where the player takes on the role of a god creating a galaxy. You’ll (assuming you’ll play it of course) begin with a blank canvas and the ability to place a few stars, which can host planets. You can create life or allow it to grow on it’s own, choose to aid them in their growth or simply leave them to it.
Over time, you’ll create more and more solar systems with more and more complex life, and eventually they’ll leave their respective planets, spread, and form a galactic union. From there, you could end up with wars, peace, prosperity or whatever you want, really. The plan is to make every single action have a consequence which ultimately affects the direction of the game.
This will be difficult – the engine alone may take months to create, especially considering my skills are rusty to say the least. Still though, it seems a worthy project, and I look forward to seeing how it goes.
If you want to have a try at game design yourself, click here to have a look at available versions (scroll down to the bottom of the page to download the free (lite) versions).
Other than that I want to write a series of short stories, which I intend to post here. So watch this space.
